While we might like the world to revolve around us and our needs, we know that this doesn’t, and won’t make the world a better place. In almost all aspects of our social life, sharing plays a central part. The essential element that embraces ‘people’ more than ‘possessions’, is where belongings are seen as ours rather than mine and yours. Oh that got pretty much idealistic...

Enter OhSoWe.com, a cool startup launched earlier last month by OpenTable founder Chuck Templeton which provides a platform - focused on helping us all re-discover the things we can do with our neighbors.

So the next time you are looking to share a spare shove, drill, spare room, extra seeds, snow thrower, look no further than this neighborhood dot com.

Beyond the social networking sites – as they represent a good example of how Internet promotes sharing: OhSoWe extends this initiative in real life, where larger neighbourhood groups can fulfil their need to communicate. At its core it has three key sections for connecting with the people who live closest: Neighbors, Communication and Shareables.

Some Cool things you can do with OhSoWe.com–

  • Know thy neighbour exists down the block. :)
  • Post items to share within your neighbourhood.
  • Find neighbours with similar hobbies – painting, photography, yoga, gardening etc.
  • Look to borrow the things that you need (in the process save money, save resources)
  • Start a local discussion.
  • Coordinate a Carpool.
  • Share a meal with a neighbour (yummy thought!)
  • Organize a block party simply and easily.
  • Start a Book sharing club.
  • How about a soccer match youngsters?
  • Prep up team spirit for local issues such as – yard maintenance, beautification, the next garage sale and other local services. Share Services – dog walking, window washing, snow shovelling.
  • Social movie nights, and more...all with your neighbours.

Templeton envisions a future where neighbors build bonds, save money and improve the quality of their life, while at the same time helping them be more sustainable. Great Initiative! All the Best!
